There is a large number of poker games but they are all based on the same fundamental rules. They all employ the same deck of 52 cards consisting of the thirteen ranks from 2 to Ace in the four suits Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts and Spades. The five card poker hand is another universal poker standard. How this five card hand is ranked is also largely standardized although there are a few variations and additions on the theme which you can read more about in the article poker games. That which sets the poker variants apart is primarily how the cards are dealt and how many cards a player has access to when forming his five card hand.
In this articel we focus on that which the variants have in common: the basic poker rules. We will first explore the 52 cards and thereafter present the poker hands in order of ranking.
